Art above the sofa.

The sofa wall anchors the living room — and it's the easiest wall to get wrong. Too small floats away, too high loses the room. Hang by the rule, and the whole room settles.

What size art goes above a sofa?

Aim for 60–75% of the sofa’s width. Over a standard 84" sofa that means roughly 50–63" of art — one large piece or a set that spans it together.

How high should it hang?

Leave 6–10" between the back cushions and the bottom of the frame. Any higher and the art floats away from the furniture it belongs to.

One piece or a set?

One large piece reads calm and confident; a set of two or three adds rhythm. Match the set’s combined width to the same 60–75% rule.
